Minimize Their Exposure to Heat
If your essential oils suffer from prolonged exposure to extreme heat or direct sunlight, it can affect their consistency and chemical composition. It may even alter their evaporation rate. In other words, it will affect the efficacy of your oils – even if they are of the purest blend. You should ensure that your essential oils are kept away from windows or any direct source of heat for extended periods of time. Likewise, it is not a good idea to leave them in your car.
On the other hand, we are personally fans of using essential oils to spice up whatever meal or drink you are preparing. Cooking with essential oils is simple and enjoyable. Just make sure that you blend your oils with the food you are preparing instead of placing them directly on a hot pan or other heat sources.
Are You Making Your Own Blend?
If you like to make your own essential oil blends, we highly recommend storing all of your blends in special essential oil bottles such as amber glass. Some blends and oils, like citrus, can dissolve plastic over time, but the glass used in amber glass bottles is strong enough to withstand the acidity. Furthermore, the amber hue of the glass protects the oils from the damaging effects of ultraviolet light.
